    Summary

“Come on, Finnick. You’re seventeen years old for crying out loud. You should be here. Not living with those victors who aren’t even part of this community. You belong here, not in some Capitol-funded house with strangers.”

    “I’m a victor too. I’ve killed people —“

“When you were fourteen years old! It’s different.”

I set the salt shaker down and glare at him.

“People are saying awful things. They’re saying you’re more Capitol than District now. That you’ve slept with who knows how many—“

He cuts himself off, too ashamed to finish the sentence. His next words come in a whisper.

“But I always tell them I know you. I know my son. You know what I see when I look at you? I see your mother. Your eyes...”

“I hate my eyes,” I mutter it almost to myself and am surprised to realize I’ve spoken out loud. “That’s what they all say. That they love my eyes. My hair. My skin.”

“Finnick. What you’re doing. No one’s forcing you, right? You’re willing—“

“I like the Capitol, dad,” I say quickly. “It doesn’t smell like fish, the buildings aren’t falling apart, there’s always enough to eat. Your friends don’t show up dead on the beach.”

    Summary

Minutes to Midnight is Finnick Odair’s raw and unfiltered memoir, revealing the hidden espionage and nuclear standoff behind Panem’s rebellion. It’s a haunting testament to the personal and political costs of a war fought on the edge of annihilation.

Finnick survived the lizard-mutts in the sewers of the Capitol. A decade after the end of the war, he publishes his memoirs.
