Summary
Buck gets dumped by Tommy so naturally he goes to the one person he knows will cheer him up.
Eddie is seeking joy and trying to understand himself when Buck shows up at his door looking far too sad.
{{“Tommy dumped me.”
It was a quiet admission. A whisper that Buck wasn’t entirely sure if he wanted Eddie to hear. “Should I put pants on for this?” Eddie asked. Buck could feel his eyes on him, hear his smile in his tone, and Buck found himself smiling too.
“Not unless you want to,” Buck said and looked over at Eddie to show his smile.
“Well,” Eddie hummed. “It’s not like you loved him.” }}

Summary
They stared at one another from across the table.
“L-Look at us, just a couple of complete strangers on a date,” Buck wheezed, his face flushed and eyes alight with something Eddie couldn’t quite place.
“Yep,” he smiled back, trying to temper his sudden nerves.
Clearing his throat, he leaned forward and offered his hand.
An adorable line furrowed Buck’s brow before he took it, his hand engulfed by Eddie’s and gripping him tight.
An electric zing shot up Eddie’s arm when their fingers met. He tried to ignore it. (And failed).
“So,” he made a show of reading Buck’s nametag as their hands dropped, “Evan. We’ve got six minutes. What do you wanna talk about?”

Summary
St. Anthony’s was his last chance, and Evan knew that. He had been kicked out of five schools in the past six years, and after his sophomore year ended with a meeting between his parents and his last headmaster that could be summarized with: “we’re not kicking him out, but just know that Evan is not welcome back in September.” His parents wanted to send him to military school.
Evan knew he couldn’t survive military school, that would be his last drop, the one that finally shattered the vase. He couldn’t be the type of person that would be able to put himself back together once they broke him down.
This had to work.
. . .
Buck is the new kid in an El Paso boarding school, trying his best to stay out of trouble. He should feel like he won at life, which is why he doesn't understand why the only time he feels alive is when he catches a glimpse of the new guy on the running team.

Summary
“His shirt’s on inside out,” Josh commented to Linda. Eddie opened the door to the breakroom and tried to let it close behind him, but that did not deter either of his colleagues. “Is this a walk of shame?”
“Well, I am walking,” Eddie confirmed, rounding the counter and beelining to the empty coffee pot. “And full of shame.”
“What happened?”
“I stood him up,” he answered, shortly.
After what was probably a very involved silent conversation between Linda and Josh, Josh said, “Eddie, if you aren’t ready, I’m sure he’d understand.”
“I am ready,” he said, detaching the water reservoir with more force than necessary. “I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Summary
“I need someone like you—someone who can keep up with him, and have his back, and maybe eventually even rein him in, should that be a thing that is humanly possible to do,” said Bobby, smiling warmly over the remaining half of his sandwich.
“Oh, I see,” said Eddie. And he did now. That’s what Bobby’s whole hard sell was about—it wasn’t personal, it was about Eddie being the top of this class. “I know the type. You see guys a lot like that in the military.”
“Oh, no,” said Bobby, “I didn’t mean to—well, what I mean is, I don’t think you have seen a lot of guys like Buck, to be honest. I don’t think there are a lot of people like him.”
