His heartbeat thrums steadily beneath your grip and you adjust, hesitating, the soft bandages rumpling beneath your fingers as you stroke that pulse and those vertebrae.
“Squeeze hard.” He is staring up at you with one eye that is flat and cold. Like a fish’s, on a bed of ice in the market. There is no distinction between pupil and iris, you realize. He places both hands on your shoulders and exhales. “You’ll know to stop when my hands fall away.”
You hesitate, eyes fastened to his.
