“You’re doing it again,” Alhaitham accused, thoughts moving too fast for him to stop and think about their situation. “You– I don’t know what it is you’re trying to save me from, but I will not be leaving this place without you. I leave…” His vision was blackening at the edges, but still, he pushed on. “I leave with you, or not at all.”
Instead of rising to his stubborn demand, Kaveh just gave him a sad smile. “You’ve always been one step ahead of everyone, Alhaitham. But not me, not this time. I can only hope you’ll forgive me one day.”

Summary
A small fire broke out in Grand Sage Azar’s office, causing some of his old books to become damaged. The undamaged books end up on Alhaitham's desk for archival, much to the Scribe's dismay.
He discovers an out-of-place journal and begins to read it. He quickly realizes it’s the personal diary of the Grand Sage. Interested in what the Sages are up to behind the scenes, he investigates, only to catch Kaveh’s name at the top of one of the first pages.

Alhaitham discovers Azar's secret obsession with Kaveh since his enrollment in the Akademiya. The Scribe acts accordingly to protect his roommate from the most powerful man in Sumeru without getting arrested for murder.
