Summary
Few months before Ilya’s official move to Ottawa, Svetlana decides to throw her childhood friend a farewell party, inviting Shane Hollander along (on behalf of the Irina Foundation and the rivals’ budding friendship, of course).
There, just before the party begins, Shane finally gets to meet the infamous Svetlana, who Ilya almost decided to marry for citizenship. Just as he’s hitting it off with her, another person from Ilya’s past decides to remind Shane of everything Ilya has been through in Russia. To make things worse, Sasha chooses to try shooting his shot again. If Sasha does not move his fucking hand off his boyfriend's pants, well, Shane's not a brick wall of muscles for nothing.
(Remember that part in Episode 2: Olympians in Sochi between Sasha and Ilya? Yeah, that part, but with Shane to witness it this time!)

Ilya smiles, his eyes softening. “Moy lyubimiyy,” he murmurs. “I am going to celebrate you the way you deserve.”
* * *Shane is used to being told he’s impossible to buy a birthday present for. It’s not exactly fun to be reminded of this fact about himself year after year, but he’s come to accept that it’s probably his own fault. After all, what do you give a man who has zero interests outside hockey and keeps his cards close to his chest?
Turns out, his boyfriend might have a few ideas.
(Or, Shane celebrates his birthday with Ilya for the first time since they started dating, and Ilya proves he’s the indisputable king of giving gifts.)
