Summary
Jayce’s eyes snap to him, and Viktor almost gasps. There’s something wrong. Well, obviously, your lab partner’s just been regurgitated from a roiling ball of energy with a beard and a massive fuck-off hammer, thank you for the observation, Viktor - but there’s something wrong with Jayce, with his eyes. He looks crazed. He looks horrified, and all the more horrified the longer he stares.
“No,” Jayce breathes. He staggers forward, catching himself with his hammer. “No. No, no, no, it can’t be you. He didn’t mean- no.”
Viktor holds out a hand like he’s soothing a feral cat. “Are you alright? I can help you. Just- just let me stand.”
He picks up his cane, leveraging himself from the ground. Jayce keeps trembling.
“Not you, that’s not- that’s not what he said, not you, I can’t kill you.”
--
Jayce is sent back to a time before it all fell apart.

Summary
“That’s not bourbon, is it?” John says with half a sneer, earning a small smile from the man in return, eyes full of mirth.
“Only the best,” the man easily responds, taking a sip just to prove a point.
“For a good ol’ boy,” John replies easily enough, watching the man's pink tongue dart out, licking a stray droplet.
“A good boy, hm,” the man echoes, his gaze traveling slowly down John’s frame, a maddening descent. “I don’t know about me,” he adds, a bit softer. “But you, on the other hand —” The man’s mouth curves, the sharp flash of teeth, like a predator lying in wait. “You look like a good boy, yeah?”

Summary
“You cracked it!” Jayce leaped off the stool and was at Viktor’s side in two great bounds. “Gods.” His eyes darted across the board. “This means—"
“We can stabilize the crystal. Contain its power into a gemstone.” A blush tingled Viktor's neck as he presented the findings as if they were a gift. He had toiled, had endured countless sleepless nights just so he could make their dream, Jayce’s dream… “Your dream to put hextech into the hands of the people, it can be made real now, Jayce.”
When Jayce beamed and grabbed Viktor’s shoulder, Viktor’s heart stuttered.
Gods what was wrong with him? He was better than this, more controlled than this. Get ahold of yourself.

Summary
Jayce felt something press firmly under his chin and his whole body went rigid, eyes wide. It was the handle of the stranger’s cane, and it tilted his head up until he was looking at the man properly again. Jayce prayed with all his will that the blush warming his cheeks was unlit in the shadowy cell.
”I heard about your… research. Dangerous equipment, I was told. Unapproved. Then I saw your lab. That’s why I’m here, Mr. Talis—to see the ‘mad scientist’ for myself.”
…
Or: How would things be different if Viktor was a Councilor?
