He doesn’t mean it like that – in a romantic way. It’s just what he feels – that Will is his superhero, brave and smart and always there for Mike – and he was thinking about superheroes anyway, what with that Spider-guy from YouTube, and Mike is groaning and letting his head thump against his desk because he is really, truly head over heels in love with Will.
He’s learned to control it a bit better, tamp it down into something manageable, because Will’s his best friend and also the best person he knows, and he deserves better than Mike stumbling over himself every time Will flashes him a smile with those bunny teeth or puts his cold feet under Mike’s thighs on the couch.
Plus, Will has a boyfriend. That’s definitely – a deterrent, to put it kindly.
will has been sneaking around more and more, and mike's convinced that he has a secret boyfriend. the appearance of a local web-slinger is probably unrelated.

Whatever happens next... no matter what...
Will felt his soul slowly leaving his body.
Time seemed suspended, as if they were trapped in a parallel reality.
Then Will started to cry. A terrible cry, sobbing and heaving. The tears streamed down like a waterfall and he didn’t even try to stop them, he just lay there, in the arms of the man he loved and who, apparently, was preparing him for the inevitable end.
will thinks mike is preparing to leave him. mike is preparing to ask him to marry him. these turn out to be very different things, as you can imagine

“My point,” Will says, mouth twitching at the corner for a second before he looks Mike in the eye, “is that you’re allowed to feel whatever you’re feeling. Or not feeling. Mike, you’re my best friend, okay? There’s nothing you could ever say to me that’s going to change that.”
Then again, maybe the timing is never going to be right, Mike realizes. But Will is looking at him steadily, maybe slightly nervously, and fiddling with Mike’s fingers with his own. Straightening them out one by one, curling Mike’s hand back into a fist, tapping his knuckles, twining their fingers together and releasing them. Nervous energy, Mike knows now. It’s humming between them both, making his skin spark everywhere they touch.
Will is giving him an opening.
So Mike gathers all his courage and says quietly, “You heard what I said to you.”
And Will nods.

When Will gets trapped in the void after they finally defeat Vecna, Mike can't help spilling everything he's kept from Will in the hopes that it helps Will wake up. Then Will does, and Mike has to deal with the consequences of his honesty as their friends and family figure out how to move forward.

Summary
Will Byers runs a licensed boutique bakery where the top-selling item is pastry glaze made from the slick of Omegas in heat. He keeps his own body heavily medicated on suppressants—especially around Mike Wheeler, the corporate Alpha who comes in every morning just to buy black coffee and stare at him.
Will wants to confess, but he freezes every time. Desperate and exhausted by his Omega’s constant pining, Will finally breaks. He stops taking his medication, gathers his own raw slick, and bakes it into a custom batch of pastries that he hands to Mike as a gift.
It works a little too well;
"With your slick though, right?" Mike spoke, his eyes flashing with a sudden, intense heat as he trapped Will against the stainless steel counter. "Bet you fingered yourself and put your slick into the cake mixture for me, didn't you, princess? Answer me."

“If I wouldn't like it. Don’t people say try it before you say you don’t like it?” Mike looks at him again; his eyebrows raised with a small grin on his face.
“Um… Yeah, I guess. Where is this coming from?” Will asks, turning his body to fully face Mike.
He shrugs.
“Just been thinking about it.”
“About kissing guys?” Will fires the question quickly, wanting to get to the bottom of this.
“No.”
Will tilts his head.
“Okay, then what were you thinking about?” Will laughs dryly, Mike pulling his lips into his mouth.
“Well… about trying it, but not like… guys.” Mikes face starts to flush.
“Okay, then what? A specific guy?” Will laughs, letting one leg stretch over the couch cushions, his other still held to his chest.
“You could say that.” Mike whispers, his eyes darting over Will’s face.

Mike becomes extremely affectionate with Will out of nowhere aka domestic Mike and Will.

Summary
Years after the Upside Down, Will is mostly okay. Mostly.
But lately, the back of his neck has started betraying him again, prickling with goosebumps and old fear even though the Mind Flayer is gone. When Mike notices, he refuses to let Will keep treating that part of himself like something ruined.

“God.. You really are half-asleep” Mike let out an exhale. “Will, I need you to listen to me, okay?” He almost grabbed his hand again, but didn’t. “I’m gonna say a lot… And probably freak the fuck out. Can you… can you pay attention?”

Will just laughed, shaking his head, trying to play it cool despite the sudden warmth in his cheeks. “Sure, Mike. I’m sure you tell every person in a five-mile radius whatever they want to hear to keep your guest list full.”
“You're definitely special,” Mike said without missing a beat, leaning his forearm against the counter next to Will, closing the distance between them. “But if you’re worried about my sample size, feel free to ask around. I don't usually look at anyone the way I'm looking at you right now.”
Will raised an eyebrow, letting out a soft huff. “Oh, please. I bet you have that exact script memorized for your pledges during orientation.”
“Ouch. Harsh,” Mike teased, a dimple flashing in his cheek. “I’ll have you know I’m completely improvising. You just happen to be very inspiring.”
“Is that your way of saying you’re out of practice?” Will shot back, a sharp, playful glint in his eye.
Mike let out a low chuckle, clearly loving the pushback. “Far from it."

Will tries to shrug it off. "Just something small. Early six-month anniversary gift let’s say, or at least part of it. The rest will come later. Now open it."
And he does open it, but it’s not a comic book or action figure like he expects but a collar and a custom one at that. But with how the last few months have gone—pining secretly and determinedly not talking about the puppy thing from Halloween—maybe this is what Mike needs. Maybe what they both need.

There was a buzzing sound, and a beep, before the same words sounded again:

Another buzz, then again: “—still here… anyway, call me back. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.”
Joyce realised with a terrible lurch to her heart that Will hadn’t called Mike. He wasn’t finally speaking to him again—it was a cassette tape. A cassette tape of Mike’s voice, a recording from what must’ve been the end of a missed phone call, and he was replaying Mike’s last sentence over and over. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.
When Joyce first saw Mike at five years old—a sweet, caring little thing, jumping to Will’s aid without a second thought—she’d never thought it would end up like this.

With every morning tangled under the same sheets, Mike felt a strange feeling stirring in his chest. It fluttered with every kiss he pressed to Will's forehead and cheek. Any appreciative gesture they traded back and forth sprang that same strange, peculiar feeling to life.
It was a simple, unspoken thing that always passed between them that Mike couldn't quite name...

Though the camera doesn’t catch it, Joyce and Jonathan exchange an amused look over the rearview.
Then, the footage splices, rapidly cutting through various points in life—Will and Mike’s first time hanging out at the Byers’; Mike coming over for Will’s birthday; Will coming over for Mike’s. Flashes of middle school that stretched into those final days before they left for Lenora. High school, graduation, moving day—the clips start blurring into one another as more pop up, but it stops on a clip of Mike and Will, probably around six years old, giggling as they try to handle the camera.
“We’ll see about forever, honey.”
(or, the one where jonathan byers has a lot of stocked up video footage from when mike and will were kids, and decides that the best time to reveal them is during his best man speech at their wedding.)
