Summary
“What the fuck do you want, Mike?” He snapped. Will might as well have whipped him with a belt. Mike jolted with shock, a stunned expression writing across his face.
“What-what do you mean?”
“I mean, what are you doing here? Why the fuck are you in New York? What could have possibly possessed you to come here?” Will spat with venom. He knew he wasn’t being fair, but it was uncontrollable. The hurt expression on Mike’s face was making him even more aggravated. If anyone had the right to feel hurt, it was Will.
After Will left for school, he gave Mike distance to grieve. He figured that whenever Mike felt like bridging that gap again, he would reach out.
He hadn’t attempted it once in the past two years.

Will Byers is forced to work with Mike Wheeler on his senior capstone project. Just when everything had started to calm down in his life, Mike decided to show up again for the first time in two years. Mike holds out his hand, eyes still trained on the page as Will drops two dice into his palm. He finishes the last few sentences of the chapter as he shakes the dice, and then sets his book facedown on the cushion and opens his fist over the coffee table, plastic clattering against the wood.
He’s expecting to do some basic addition. What he isn’t expecting is to be looking at two hot-pink dice that say “LICK” and “ASS.”
Will and Mike get their hands on a set of sex dice. It's a joke, until it's not.

Everyone settled into their seats and the questions flew across the room: how were finals, when did you cut your hair, any news on the job search, blah blah blah. Mike was hardly listening. He was picking at loose threads on the armchair cushion, staring at Will’s earring. Finally, he worked up the nerve to ask—
“When’d you get your ear pierced?”
Will glanced his way and smiled, a little sheepish. “Like a month ago,” he said, twisting the gold stud between his fingertips.
“What does Carlton think about it?” Max asked, leaning forward with a wolfish grin.
Will flushed, ducking his head. “He likes it,” he said, simply.
Mike’s mouth went dry. The world skidded to a stop. “Who’s Carlton?”
