“Yes, those are actions we can take using energy.” Vergil agreed. “But that is not the base responsibility. It functions to keep you alive. It is your power. Your strength, just as is your blood. You know if you lose too much blood, you will lose consciousness. The same thing happens if you overexert yourself and use up more energy than you have to support yourself. And you,” Vergil paused as his head turned to look Nero in the eyes, which Nero reluctantly met as he twisted to look over at him, “were flaunting a lot of your abilities this week.”

Turns out having access to one's devil trigger comes with a slue of demonic instincts and impulses that conveniently went unmentioned by either of his two living relatives.
