    “What’s wrong?” Asks Connor, before he can respond.

    “Nothin’, just thinkin’.”

    “That’s new.” Connor smirks.

    “Hey!” He turns to tackle the other boy. “I do plenty of thinkin’.” They stumble and fall against his truck, his left arm landing next to his friend, his right arm still around his neck. He laughs, but Connor just stares at him, eyes wide.

    For some reason, Amber’s voice is back in an instant.

    Is this because of your friend?

    Or, Connor gets dragged along to meet his sisters ex–boyfriend. He'd be happy to forget him the same day, but Georgie puts an insane amount of effort into befriending him.

    Georgie doesn't know why he's so drawn to Connor, only that it has absolutely nothing to do with Mandy. (Surely it's not because he's falling in love, right? That would be bizarre.)
