Summary

Summary
“I was… I was supposed to be finding my joy.”
“Did it work?” Buck asks.
“That was the start of it, took a while… but… I found it now.” He loosely wraps a hand around Buck’s wrist, holding on.
“That’s good, that’s really good, buddy.”
“It’s been really good, I’ve been so good,” Eddie continues, “So it’s okay.”
Oh– Buck’s breath hitches. He thinks he’s going to die.
“I’ve made my peace with it.” Eddie nods ever so slightly. “I got to be happy for a while.”
“Stop that. You can be happy for the rest of your life, Eddie.” Buck moves his hand from where it cradles Eddie’s head, to his pulse point where he holds his fingers to feel the thready beating, then cards them through Eddie’s hair again. “The rest of your long life, because we’re getting out of here. Together.”
“Together…” Eddie mumbles, smiling slightly, “Together would be nice.”
Or, Buck finds Eddie in the elevator.

Summary
"Fuck. We really have to get out of here." Eddie croaks out, emotion clogging up in his throat.
This… this can't be it.
After everything Eddie's gotten out of, this can't be how it ends. In a stupid fucking elevator that doesn't want to work and without getting a chance to see his kid go off to college, and without knowing if Athena's okay. Without going to Baby Nash's first birthday, without seeing Buck love and treat Theo the same way he has treated Chris.
Without telling Buck how he feels.
Without hugging his kid and telling him how he loves him and that he didn't mean to go this way.
He sits up a little straighter at the last two, the tugging in his chest doubling over with the pain in his lower abdomen. He hisses in pain while trying to face Buck, head still leaning against the elevator wall.
Can Eddie leave with one less regret?
____________________________Or, Buck and Eddie are stuck in an elevator. Only one of them has a gunshot wound.
