“What… do I smell like?” Randy breathed.
Benson’s lips twitched. His thumb stroked along Randy’s cheekbone.
“You want me to be honest?”
Randy nodded, too quickly, the motion dizzying.
Benson took a slow breath in through his nose, eyes drifting over Randy’s flushed face.
“Usually,” he murmured, voice softer than Randy had ever heard it, “You smell like lavender.”
Randy’s breath caught.
Benson’s hand slid from his temple to his jaw, thumb brushing along the hinge.
“But right now…” Benson’s pupils spreading just a little. He swallowed, throat bobbing. “Right now you smell like slick.”

And even though the lighting wasn’t great, he still couldn’t stop his eyes from trying to see things that couldn’t be there—his mind had to be playing tricks on him. Because the more Eddie studied the guy, the more it felt like something had begun rotting inside him, souring his organs and poisoning him slowly.
The blindfold hid a lot, and the dim, red glow didn’t allow him to see well, but the shape of his mouth, the blond fuzz on his jaw. Even his hair was similar…

The lawsuit is over, and Buck is back to work, which means Eddie is forced to face his feelings for the man. He's terrified by how much he loves him—as he doesn't want to be hurt again. And that fear manifests in anger, causing him to lash out with his words.
Then after saying something particularly hurtful to Buck, he's back at a place he hasn't visited since he met Buck. But his night is cut short when he sees a sub's signal to stop being ignored—a sub that turns out to be Buck.

“This is Buckley, number eight.” Billy reached up to clap Evan on the shoulder, “Our new running back from fucking Pennsylvania. Can you believe we’ve got a Yankee on our team?” The rest of the group laughed. Evan flushed, shifting his weight as Diaz’s mouth folded into a bitchy little moue of distaste he didn’t even bother to hide.
