Scaramouche is a god—or at least, adjacent to one. How long had he been wandering? A year? Two? A million? It doesn’t matter. His god—no, his creator—had failed to finish the job of destroying him. She had left him hollow.
But it didn’t matter. His Queen promised to destroy him Herself. All he had to do was help her achieve her glory—and wage a war against the heaven that abandoned him.
Simple enough.
All he had to do was wait.
And honestly, why shouldn’t he waste the time searching for a reason to change his mind? For feeling, in any form? If there was any reason at all to save this worthless world, he surely would’ve found it after five hundred years.
But maybe all his reasons were caught in secretive, scarred faces and beautiful, lifeless blue eyes.
