Summary
“First off,” Scar started, turning to face Mumbo as he recovered, inhaling a little shakily as he composed himself. “I think some warped wood would compliment your build right around this area, so toss all those other blocks. I’ll even donate some of my own I’ve collected —”
“Scar?”
“— and secondly! You, Mumbo Jumbo, are officially banned from working the rest of the day.”
“What?” Mumbo asked, blinking owlishly at Scar.
_________
OR:
Mumbo is sick, like, really sick. Scar's worried and there's few things he won't do to make sure his favorite neighbor is taking care of himself. Even if he has to sink to nefarious means to do so.

Summary
His eyes were a bright, vibrant red, gone from the natural burnt color they normally were. There was a smear of blood across his bottom lip and Mumbo’s attention shifted from Grian’s hand — now clean of any of his blood — and down to Grian’s face.
“That’s it, see, I’m right here, just listen to me okay?” Grian cooed softly, his heart hammering against his ribs.
Mumbo placed a tender, almost reverent kiss to the pulsepoint on Grian’s wrist, and his instincts snapped in an instant.

Summary
‘What happened?’ died on the tip of his tongue in response. What happened to what? The series? Them? What happened to the feelings living in Scar’s chest that feel like someone’s taken a spoon to them and scrambled his insides all up? Why did his chest ache every time he considered voicing those questions?
It had been so easy, before, Scar remembers. He wasn’t the type to consider consequences to his actions, be it good or bad, and the Life server was not an exception. He’d lived as he pleased, speaking and doing the things he wanted regardless of the outcome. Grian was clearly going through something, some unforeseen consequence of the server, and here Scar was, unable to ask that simple question suddenly.
___
Or:The aftermath of 3rd Life weighed heavily on those who were trapped in that server, and some were handling it better — or worse — than others. Scar confronts the consequences of his own actions while trying to comfort the one person who means the most to him, and who happens to be the very source of those consequences.

Summary
The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

Summary
Grian presumed his soul was actively leaving his body – providing him with just another last minute delusion to take him into the next life - until he heard music.
His tired delusions were a lot of things, but they were never music.
Grian blinked, once, twice, then a third time. Still, the shape on the horizon didn’t fade. The light didn’t fade. The music didn’t fade. This wasn’t the blurry shadow of what may or may not be a rock, or the light of the moon against a wave imitating a town. This was a genuine miracle. This was his relief.
It was a ship!

After being cursed by a witch, Grian finds himself stuck in the form of a parrot with no way to change back, and only a conveniently handsome pirate captain to rely on until he reaches land.

Summary
"I don't want to pry," Xisuma said when they were speaking before his official invitation to join. "And not answering won't change whether or not you get whitelisted. We admins just prefer to have a heads up if anything's likely to come trying to dig you up, so we can keep you and everyone else safe."
Grian thought back to obsidian and endstone and blood, to tattered wings and torn robes and so so many unseeable eyes, and swallowed hard.
"No," he said, his voice shaky. "No, I don't think anyone will come looking for me."
"Okay," Xisuma answered, and that was that.
Until they invited two new people to the server.
or, the Hermitcraft Backstory Rule says that you don't ask other people about their backstory, you let them tell it if they want to and leave it be if they don't.
Unfortunately for Grian, one of the newest Hermits was also a player on his old server - one he'd thought had been dead for years - and she's going to drag his backstory kicking and screaming into the light whether she means to or not.

Summary
“Have you…” Scar started, then sighed, dropping his hand from his face and letting it lay in his lap, turning his head to look out towards the window, where the eyes would stare at him from afar, if he went beyond it. “Have you ever felt like you were being watched, but nobody was there?”
Grian froze. The hands over his knee tightened, and the feathers along his shoulders, at the base of his wings, puffed up. Scar raised a brow, and Grian only shook his head, a slight shudder in his body. There may have been something haunted in his eyes.
“Yes,” He said in a quiet, hoarse voice, “tell me more?”
— — —
In which Scar gets some unexpected fans. He'd probably like them a lot more if they quit staring all the time. And stopped interrupting his sleep. And learned to explain themselves every once in a while. But, to be fair, he thinks that last one might be a family trait.
