Summary
The corners of Manolo’s eyes crinkled. The hugs had mussed his hair; Maria laughed and smoothed his curl back into place. Manolo attempted a serious look, though it was ruined by the way his mouth kept twitching. He said, mock-solemn, “Joaquin, if you wanted a dance, you should have said.”
Joaquin started to laugh. It caught in his throat as Manolo took his hand and Maria grasped the other. Both of their hands were callused, and Joaquin remembered, dizzily, how Maria had held the sword aloft like she was born to wield it, and of Manolo’s fingers, certain and deft upon the guitar.

Summary
"Has anyone ever asked Joaquín to stay?"
It was a blindingly simple question that hit Manolo with the strength of a rampaging bull. But then, María always asked the most difficult questions.

Summary
“Why’re you here?” he asked. Dean stopped short, frowning and lowering the pills in a mix of hurt and confusion.
“Because I’m your brother,” Dean said firmly. “Why wouldn’t I be here?”
Sam frowned at that, looking almost confused. Dean’s heart pounded with worry.
“But… you were with the angels. I… I left,” Sam said, voice almost hesitant. Dean sighed, understanding washing through him.
“We’re at Bobby’s house, Sammy,” he said, motioning to the familiar room. “We’re together. It’s okay. Now will you please take this medicine-”
But Sam was already moving, pushing himself away from Dean and shaking his head hard enough that he swayed, almost losing his balance. Dean reached out frantically to steady him, but Sam whimpered at his touch and pulled away like he’d been burned.
-
Or, Sam gets sick for the first time since the apocalypse - since his and Dean's fight - and in his fevered state, some hidden thoughts and worries of his slip out. Dean makes sure to shut down his doubt quick.

Summary
Sam is dead. Dean isn’t processing.
And then Sam is not dead, Lucifer is there, and they’re suddenly on a deadline- thirty one hours before their single way home literally ceases to exist. Jack needs to be kept away from Lucifer, Sam needs to be kept away from Lucifer, they need to get thirty three people through a rift miles away, and that’s not even mentioning the fucking war currently being waged all over this- literally -godforsaken planet.
But Sam is alive, (alive, alive, Dean’s brother is alive), albeit having one continuous panic attack. This is fine.
(It is so, so not.)
OR: A retelling of Supernatural’s s13 ep22 “Exodus” told from Dean’s point of view, complete with all the nice fun trauma the writers love to ignore, a bunch of cool archangel headcanons, realistic character interactions, general badassery, characters actually using their brains, logic, and common sense, and a much, much more satisfying ending.
