Logan tuts, patting Garrett mock-sympathetically on his shoulder. “Gar-bear here is far too sick. Aren’t you, Graham?”
It’s hard to tell between the dim lighting and the fever, but it looks like Garrett is blushing. He twists his hoodie strings around his fingers and groans.
“Then,” Tucker lifts his shot high in the air. “To Garrett’s health!”
Just like everything else, the boy’s share their cold too. The Briar U showers look more like an urgent care waiting room than a hockey team.

"Jesus, Buckaroo, what’d you do? Run through the whole lot?” Chim is saying when Eddie makes it inside.
“There aren’t that many needles,” Buck grumbles, his voice now audibly congested. Because of course he’s allergic to the tree. How Eddie didn’t notice during the forty-five minutes they spent in the tree lot is nothing short of supernatural, given the typical amount of attention he extends to Buck and his nasal passages.

Buck is allergic, and Eddie suffers.

Ilya is quiet but his jaw continues to tick, the muscle flexing and pulsing. He is clearly thinking about something, but he doesn’t share. Shane doesn’t let the tears fall, he doesn’t share.
“I want to kiss you.”
Shane prays that one day he will have a firmer resolve. He’s dizzy.
“Yeah, well, I’m sick so you can’t.”
“I know I should not, but I want to.” Ilya’s hand slips up the nape of Shane’s neck, threading in his hair. “You make logic very difficult, yes?”

“You’re sick,” says Shane, albeit shakily because he isn’t sure about this. He isn’t sure about them, or what they are. He doesn’t know if he’s allowed to care or worry because he doesn’t know what to call them. There is no routine or rules. All he knows is he probably shouldn’t be calling the captain of another team, especially not in the locker room. He shuts his locker and grabs his bag.
“You are obvious. Did you call me to say obvious things, like sky is blue? Or Montreal sucks. Or that you cry when you come?” It sounds like he’s smiling. Shane’s stomach swoops, tripping over itself in a swell of affection. He rubs his hand over his face, feeling disoriented by the flood of conflicting emotions.
“Fuck you,” Shane snaps, habitually.
or: ilya always texts shane before they play against each other, but today he doesn’t. shane, and all spectating eyes, can tell someone is off with boston’s captain.

Maybe it’s the fever, or the endless months of solitary nights, or the way Mel’s looking at him, or maybe he’s just figuring out what he wants after losing so much—whatever it is, Langdon doesn’t have to think before he says, “Stay.”
Mel blinks at him, head tilted slightly.
“Even if it’s just until I’m asleep,” he amends. “I think it’ll make you feel better, and” —hesitating, Langdon musters one last mouthful of vulnerability— “I feel better with you here.”
A smile spreads across Mel’s face, and after a second’s hesitation, she puts her hand over Langdon’s. “I feel better being here,” she says, “although you’ll need to move over if I’m staying that long.”

Robby sends Langdon home sick from his shift; he ends up at Mel's place instead.
