Summary
Neil stared at Kevin in disbelief. “I’m sorry, the first nine hours of my what?” He demanded, searching Kevin for any signs of head trauma or intoxication.
“Your immortality,” Kevin repeatedly impatiently. “Coming back to life wasn’t a fluke, that’s going to keep happening every time you die.”
Neil stared at Kevin for a long moment, wondering if he was being subjected to someone’s idea of a bad joke. Kevin wasn’t stupid, no matter how desperately he was attempting to prove otherwise.
“You’re not serious.”
Kevin’s returning scowl was enough to convince Neil he was in fact serious. “You’ve already accepted that you died and came back once. How is it any harder to accept that it might happen again?”

Summary
Overall, Renee liked Neil. He was smart. He was quick. He wasn’t squeamish. He took no for an answer. He was fifteen, knew how to keep mum, and wielded knives almost as well as she did.
The Kenseys as a foster family were known to be absent, not supportive. She wondered briefly if they knew Neil hadn’t been home in days, and then decided that no, they probably didn’t.
( Mary leaves Neil to Witness Protection at age eleven, and the world isn't the same. )

Sunrise, Abram, death. Irrefutable. Untainted.
This is what he does. This is where his ground is.
It’s too early for sunrise.
