“What’s wrong, baby?” she asked, interrupting his thoughts. She was looking up at him.
“Nothing,” he said, trying to sound chipper. He should’ve been chipper. It was a beautiful, almost-perfect day. He was still comfortably full. Penelope, the most gorgeous, intelligent, perfect woman in the world (and also his wife) was grabbing his butt in public. Everything was great and he was a deeply normal person who had never had a weird thought in his life.
“Is—” She leaned forward a little bit, trying to get a good look at his face. “Why do you look like that? What just happened?”
“Handsome? Thank you.”
“Well yes, always. But you look…” she said, stopping him by tugging at his waistband until they stood on the inside of the sidewalk. She looked up at him, raising a hand above her eyes as she squinted into the sunlight. “Why do you look jealous?”
