Akram huffs a laugh as he tilts his head to the side. “Your penchant for sarcasm is truly admirable.”
Carl grins at him. “I do try.”
“Seems it comes easily.”
“Sometimes.” Carl winks playfully, unable to help himself. “Always pays to have a captive audience.”
Akram’s smile seems to catch him unawares and he shakes his head. His ankle presses back against Carl’s, a very deliberate touch, and Carl tries not to choke on his chip as he pops it in his mouth.
Or, a thunderstorm keeps Carl and Akram from returning home... and there's only one bed.
