Summary
Katsuki stood on the roof of a six storey apartment block and watched neon signs flicker through the drizzle below. Half of them were broken, and the other half probably wished they were. Vibrant hues of cerulean rainwater gathered in potholes, rust crawled up fire escapes, graffiti layered over graffiti. He lit a cigarette and leant against the rusted railing, which immediately creaked under his weight.
“Piece of shit.”
A train rattled overhead somewhere in the distance, shaking loose dust from buildings. Music drifted from an apartment window below, some old pop song from before he was born. He took a drag from the cigarette and glanced toward the stairwell door. Still making him wonder where the hell he was.
“You waiting for someone?”
He nearly launched the cigarette into orbit. The voice came from behind, naturally. Izuku stood beside another rooftop entrance with his hands shoved awkwardly into the pockets of a dark jacket. His curled green hair had grown past his shoulders, giving the effortlessly unkempt look that he'd lost a fight with both a brush and with common sense. Rain had dampened the ends. His glasses were slightly crooked, and one lens had a crack running through the corner.

Summary
Midoriya Izuku died in middle school on a rainy Thursday afternoon after climbing onto the roof of Aldera and stepping cleanly over the edge. And nobody had blamed Bakugo Katsuki. Not really. Some students remembered the swan dive comment. Some teachers knew Bakugo had bullied him for years.
But Katsuki was smart, talented, confident. And Midoriya had always been seen as strange anyway – too emotional, too obsessive, too weak, too attached.
Adults shook their heads and called it tragic.
Classmates posted crying messages online for a week before moving on with their lives.
And then worse, Midoriya returned three nights after his funeral, standing silently in Katsuki’s bedroom wearing the same middle school uniform he died in.

Katsuki’s chest tightened violently. He remembered grabbing Izuku’s hand during the war. And he remembered thinking, with absolute animal certainty, that nobody would ever love him more than this. Then afterwards came the unbearable drift away from each other, adulthood and agencies and schedules and Uraraka and distance and polite fucking smiles.
“I just need you to understand,” he said, almost to himself now. “You keep acting like this is normal. Like we can go back to normal after everything.”
