The woman at the school’s reception desk flat out refused to give them anything about Miss Beard, her hands laid on the countertop as she shook her head sadly. Big, plump bottom lip jutting out in what Benson might have known to be real sympathy if he had ever been presented with the emotion in a sincere way. Which he hadn’t. At least, that’s what he imagined, anyway. When she had removed her palms from the counter, the ledger beneath them had become stuck to one, slick with a nervous sweat that she hid all too well in the calm, collected way she had informed the boy she simply couldn’t give that sort of information away.
The page was left greasy and she pointedly did not look at it.
“And Mr. Bradley, I really think you’re doing the right thing. Good for you.” She had said, like she was his fucking grandmother.

Summary
Just him and Toki in the Mordhaus living room with a couple of tabs, a couple of Jodorowsky films et al and an endless supply of Paloma cocktails, a favourite of Pickles’ – tequila for the party, grapefruit for the drugs, and the pretty pink accentuated his sensitive side. Pickles had taken about eight times what Toki had, still only enough to make him blush and see a couple of geometrics, nothing big time. Enough to enjoy a movie. Once Skwisgaar had left, they’d turned the hot tub up to a sweltering sauna, clinked glasses, and settled back for the first film of the night: Dune.
