Summary
Jackie Taylor is perfectly, completely, unremarkably normal—no matter what anyone says.
At least, that’s what she keeps telling herself—because there’s no way she belongs at this camp, a government-funded nightmare disguised as a summer retreat for "troubled teens with abilities." Shauna? Sure. Jackie always knew her best friend had something… off about her. (Her personal guard dog, her ride-or-die—except Shauna’s slipping away now, and Jackie doesn’t know how to fix it.)
Then there’s Ben, the exhausted guidance counselor who looks like he’d rather decompose in a ditch than babysit a bunch of superpowered delinquents. Nat, who’s weirdly fine with this prison camp vibe—maybe even into it. Travis, the lone boy in this estrogen fortress (Jackie refuses to dwell on the implications of that). And Lottie—tall, cryptic, and, bafflingly, a Mario Kart prodigy.
But Jackie’s normal. Totally, completely normal.
…Right?

Summary
Shauna grabs her arm.
“Jackie, wait—”
And Jackie growls.
Not a figure of speech.
No.
A literal growl rips from Jackie’s throat—deep, and raw. A low snarl that vibrates in her chest and echoes around the dorm room, inhumanly loud. Her lips curl back from her teeth—bared, exposing canines that look just a little too sharp in the low light.
Shauna stumbles back a full step, eyes huge.
Jackie slaps a hand over her mouth like she can shove the sound back inside her throat. But it’s too late.
Oh God.

Summary
Jackie Taylor died in 1996.
She shouldn’t be here. Not now. Not in 2021.
The world moved on without her. Her story ended in the snow, her name written into history as one of the lost. She was supposed to stay that way.
Because the dead don’t come back.
And yet—here she is.

Summary
Jackie should be a ghost, a name lost to the cold, a memory buried beneath the snow. Instead, she’s still here — adrift, numb, moving through the days without purpose. She isn’t a leader anymore, nor a true survivor; she isn’t even sure she’s real. Shauna won’t accept that. She watches, waiting for Jackie to crack, to react, to feel something. Jackie tells herself it doesn’t matter, that nothing matters anymore. But Shauna has never been one to let things go, and in the vast wilderness, neither of them knows how to stop.
-
Or, maybe Jackie isn’t numb and Shauna just wants her to bleed.
