Summary
The old woman's hand suddenly clamps around Samira's wrist with surprising strength and then there's the metallic rattling of a cuff closing. "What—" she tries, tugged back by the sudden weight around her hand.
"Are you shitting me?" Abbot asks, looking from where his right hand is cuffed to Samira's left.

Summary
She had miscalculated and today is the first time she's seeing him since she told him to kiss her in the hospital parking lot on Thursday morning, and he, instead of doing as asked, ran away. Since he tucked tail and bolted with a laughably weak excuse to hole up in his perpetually-dark bedroom, police scanner on full volume if Samira had to guess. The memory tastes bitter and Samira can feel the frown she's wearing. She doesn't like being wrong in general, but it feels infinitely worse to have been wrong about whatever this thing between her and Jack is. Or isn't.

Summary
Life has occasioned to kick Jack Abbot in the teeth more times than he can count. More times than he has fingers, more times than the five toes he lost or the five toes he still has. He keeps this in mind when Samira Mohan emails him asking permission to submit the article they co-authored two summers ago, Efficacy and Complications of Intracardiac Pigtail Catheterization in the Emergency Room Setting, to present at a conference in Philadelphia.
He has not seen her for almost two years. It took six months for him to get her new phone number, and another six months after that to convince her that he really meant it when he said that he wanted to keep in touch.

Samira isn’t quite sure what to expect when she arrives at the restaurant on the ground floor of Jack’s hotel.
