Kniesy says he’ll laugh at anything, which is true. Most things are a bit funny, or comical might be more appropriate. He’s standing at the door of his high-rise apartment, waiting for the anvil to drop. Instead, Auston holds it open and he steps inside. Maybe Auston can come round some time too, stand at the foot of his place, and he’ll have the window already open with his grand piano teetering from the ledge. Maybe instead he’ll invite him inside and play him Adieux or Arioso.

The first time they met, Fernando had clutched his hand like it was a pearl enclosed in it's shell and said, "Run while you still can." A wolfish grin bared at his lips and Oscar's heart had stuttered like the perfect prey. A howl of laughter followed from his engineers, a pack of hyenas and it was infectious, so he had laughed too.

Knowing Mick is acquainting with his morbid curiosity. Life’s a clingy lover that he can’t shake off, although he never tries too hard. They’ve talked into the night about apocalypses and whether the first person who brought a gun to a knife fight felt more like he’d cheated death or more like the Grim Reaper. Esteban had asked in return if he had ever watched The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy on Cartoon Network saying that Billy’s nose freaked him out more than the Grim Reaper ever did.
