Summary
In the dark blue of early dawn, Cornelia looks every bit the ghost she knows she already is. Skin, hair, and undergarments, muted and grayed by the dirt that covers every inch of her. An apparition obscured by the prairie dust.
AU/canon divergence of the aftermath to Cornelia and Eli's scene under the stars in The Buffalo Gun.

Summary
Cornelia pulls the trigger. Shoots.
Less than a second later, Martha Myers does the same: two gunshots, running wild on the wind, singing its mortal cadence to the sky.
And then, silence.
.
Cornelia chooses another path, two times.
(It changes everything.)

Summary
David Melmont takes Cornelia Locke with him to a new life across the sea, a life that she determines isn’t much of a life after all.
At least, until she meets a man who changes everything.
~
“Lady. What you’re trying to do. It ain’t my business.” The Native gestures to the area, to the construction set up for drilling water. “But I can tell you one thing. This isn’t the place.”Cornelia angrily fiddles with the rope in her hands, because she can’t quite get the noose right. “I’m trying to make a statement!”
The man is silent for a moment, watching her fail to swing the rope over one of the wooden beams. His serious, liquid dark eyes seem to judge her for a fool and it almost makes Cornelia feel childish. He gazes around the space in a very collected manner before settling his intense gaze upon her flushed face. He speaks slowly, as if tasting every word. "Whoever he is, he's not here. He's not watching you. I am."
