“Did you like them? My parents?”

Ilya squints at him. “I love them,” he says simply, like it should be obvious. “They’re your parents.”

But, Shane thinks idly, there's a difference, isn't there, between loving them and liking them?

(5 times Shane thinks Ilya doesn't like his parents and 1 time he finds out the truth)

Hurts in just the right way. Miscommunication, but the kind where they keep talking just slightly out of sync.

No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.

Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.

Awesome. Shane is a goalie, appropriately awkward, and very endearing. Has the same format as the book, spanning years. I loved how the goalie helmets told the story of Shane's self-esteem. Really engaging and enjoyable read.

Yuna getting stuck in an elevator with Ilya for two hours doesn't change everything... but it changes some things. Like Yuna getting to be on a first-name basis with Ilya a full year before her son is.

(Part 2 (the smutty part) is not actually essential reading if you are not in the mood for smut!)

I absolutely love this series. Starts out sweet, but quickly turns into a sharp commentary on hockey culture, and what happens when systems to protect people from workplace harassment fail. Interspersed with enough fun and fluff to keep it an engaging read. Very good use of social media. I really like stories where the relationship is part of the story, but not the only part. Also love 'so obvious asking is stupid'. I would love a next installment, but it is also already perfect as it is.

“I feel really good about this kid, I think he could be great on your wing, he just needs some help settling in. Someone to show him the ropes.”

    “Yes.”

The line went silent for a moment. Ilya wasn’t really sure why his coach felt the need to run this by him.

“Rozanov,” his coach said at last. “I want him to live with you.”

Ilya blinked, then nearly shouted into the phone. “What?”

Absolute favorite in the fandom. Ilya/Shane is almost a background story, it is mostly about found family, with rookie Pavik as the catalyst to Ilya getting an actual support system.

“You are planning to rob me or what?” He hears Rozanov call, and he can’t help but smile slightly even as he rolls his eyes, closing the door to the linen closet and feeling strangely lighter than when he opened it, reassured that he’s just trying to read into a blank page, that today doesn’t mean anything more than Rozanov doesn’t mind him being around, which is strangely flattering.

“I don’t know,” he calls back. “Don’t Russians like diamonds and fur and stuff? Where should I start looking if I want to know what my options are?”

He hears Rozanov laugh, and it makes him smile.

When he joins him in the living room once more, Rozanov tugs him down to lean against him again. Shane goes easier this time, settling into it, knowing it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that he just happens to be the closest warm body, the person on Rozanov’s roster who filled today’s slot.

(the tuna meltdown doesn't happen) (this does not mean they get ANY better at communication)
