Summary
Eddie's talking about Marisol, about how he should have seen it coming, about how he's tired of trying to make things work that aren't meant to work. Buck is listening, mostly, but he's also watching the way Eddie's throat moves when he swallows, the way his fingers drum restlessly against the table.
"What about you?" Eddie asks suddenly. "How's Tommy?"
Buck blinks.

or; Kim situation never happened, Eddie and Marisol break up. Buck and Eddie get a bit too drunk.

Summary
This is all perfectly applicable to friendship. Friendships require effort. Intentionality. Sometimes you have to watch a minute long Instagram video about attracting men to figure out how to get your male best friend to come back to your house and fall asleep on your couch again. Or in your bed. Either one.
Whatever Buck's comfortable with. Eddie's not picky.
Eddie will take whatever proximity Buck is willing to offer and be grateful for it, and if that sounds desperate then fine, it's a little desperate, but it's friend-desperate, which is a completely different thing than regular desperate.
He replays the video and takes mental notes, formulating a plan that is simple: get Buck's attention. Spend more time with Buck. Stop feeling like his ribcage has been hollowed out with a melon baller every time he goes forty-eight hours without hearing Buck laugh.
Easy and straightforward. He’s got this.
Or,
Five times Eddie tries to show Buck how much he misses him; plus the one time he just says it.Series

Summary
“Ravi, I want you to have my fours,” says Buck, before Ravi can start his own turn. All three heads at the table turn to him in incredulous unison, so he adds, “What?”
“That is simply not how the game works,” answers Ravi, dumbfounded. “How do you—are you real?”
“Don’t open that can of worms,” Eddie teases with a shake of his head. “I’m still trying to work that one out, and I was roommates with the guy.”
Barely audible, Hen mutters, “Roommates, he says. Is that what historians will call it?”
or: Eddie has a work wife. Buck has a lot to figure out.

Summary
And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.
For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
“On Friendship,” Kahlil Gibran (From “The Prophet)“Uhm, do you have a preferred side?” Eddie asks. His tongue is so dry in his mouth. He should have had more water at the bar.
Buck shrugs, glancing at the neat stack of pillows against the headboard. “This side is good.” He licks his lips. His broad frame somehow looks small, like he’s pulled himself inwards.“Do you -” Buck starts to say, then pauses, rubs his palms against his thighs. “Do you want to, like, build a pillow wall down the middle?”
Or: Buck and Eddie attend a Firefighter Convention in Indianapolis. And wouldn't you know it, there's only one bed. You know how this goes.

Summary
“Aren’t you gonna tell me all about the Mississippi river?” Eddie asks, his voice thick with warmth, almost tender.
Buck narrows his eyes. “Do you wanna hear facts about the river?”
“Buck, if you have things to say, I want to hear them.”
The sun doesn’t break through the clouds, but it’s like the sky brightens, for just a moment, burnishing highlights in Eddie’s hair and finding new flecks of color in his eyes. Buck feels heat travel down the back of his neck.
or: Two firefighters. Two thousand miles. One realization they probably should’ve had a long time ago.
