This summer had been hard on Mike Wheeler.

Apart from the cloying heat that seemed to permeate his lungs and stick to every inch of his skin, he had suddenly begun to notice things about his best friend that he wasn't sure were normal.

Oh. Not only that, but the movie scenes, explicit as they were, were incomparable to this. This wasn’t the blonde mistress with a thin body that tangled underneath the buff brunette, no. These were two boys.
A smaller boy with dark brown hair, almost in the shape of a bowl cut. And atop him, bending him over, looked a lot like–

Will has been drawing sex scenes from a movie, and Mike (kind of closeted) is obsessed, leading to them experimenting with the scenes and positions he drew. Along with Mike realizing he's in love with Will. With lots of other fluffy, angsty, and smutty things. (and im not sorry about will's lion stuffed animal)

College AU / FTM Will Byers x Mike Wheeler
If Will didn't feel like a girl then that's just how he felt; Mike would support him no matter what he came out as. Mike fears he's being selfish- What kind of friend would he be to take away from Will's big moment by being distracted by his own feelings? Dumb, confused feelings at that. Mike had never thought too hard about his own identity; he never felt a reason to. He was a nerd, a dungeon master, a writer, and an amazing alphabet burper. Surely there couldn't be any more to him than that? But when Will came out so confidently despite all of his fears it was in that instance where Mike started analyzing himself as well. These nebulous revelations that Mike can't find words for-
He's still trying to unravel them even now, 2 years down the line.
Maybe Mike felt like he had lost Will again, or, like a version of him.
Maybe it was Mike's fear of what society might think of Will after he came out as trans to the public.
Maybe it was because Mike realized something about himself... And if that were the case?Then Mike's crush on his best friend just turned from a straight crush, on a girl, into a gay crush, on a guy, in .2 seconds flat.
