Zack had been searching the woodlands of Mt. Nibel for hours when he came across the strange looking clearing with the circle of flat stones.
He hadn’t really graced it with more than a long considering look before he’d moved on, admiring the way the sinking light of the late afternoon sun crept only a little through the thick copse of trees surrounding it, and how perfectly even it was. Ideal for camping. On the bank of the river for easy access to water, cleared flat dirt for a safe fire. Shelter from the elements while in the very beating heart of nature.
Cloud would have loved it. Declared it perfect, even.
The thought hurt much more than he expected it to. Like Cloud was really gone.

With that megawatt winning smile pointed in his direction, Cloud felt like he could do absolutely anything, and get away with it.
Unfortunately, Zack was wrong.
It was not, in fact, a piece of cake.

“Well, as I've said before, your recovery comes first,” the doctor says as a matter of fact. “We’ll ensure you’re well taken care of, and from there, you can decide your next steps. There are other paths you might consider, but I'm sorry, Mr. Strife, becoming a SOLDIER is no longer one of them.”
Cloud strikes a deal with himself: he serves as an infantryman because it’s a prerequisite to be in SOLDIER. Hopes to pass the exam. Then climb his way through the ranks with maximum effort until he's a First Class SOLDIER fighting alongside his idol. But that all changes when he presented as an omega.
