Summary
Castiel sacrificed himself to the empty and Dean died after saving the world, again. Everything was as it should be... right?
When Castiel is ripped from the grips of death by Jack he is, to put it simply, confused, but he's even more so when he is dragged away again only to wake up in 2001 with no memory of who he is. Along the way to unveil his identity he meets a charming and cunning Dean Winchester. As they grow closer, more of Cas' forgotten past begins to rise to the surface and he must face the question that has been looming in his subconscious, just out of reach.

“Ah yes, of course.” Castiel murmurs more to himself than Dean. He sits back, keeping his gaze on Dean in a similar way to his guarded observation at the reunion. “I forgot that you have the emotional maturity of an inanimate object.”
“A toaster is the usual comparison,” Dean supplies, swallowing around his second shot of whisky, enjoying the burn as it slides down the back of his throat. Ellen would skin him alive if she knew that he was drinking on the job, but she’s not here and Castiel fucking Novak is, so Mazel tov.
It's the classic tale of boy-meets-boy, boy-finds-out-that-he-used-to-screw-boy-in-high-school, boy-rightfully-gets-called-asshole-and-loses-boy, friend-intervenes-and-saves-the-day, boy-apologizes-for-being-an-asshole-and-has-epic-sex.
Like I said, total classic.

“So, what’re you actually proposing here, Dean?” Bobby asked, greying eyebrows raised.
“I’m suggesting we watch the preview before we buy the movie,” Dean snarked.
Castiel’s look of confusion only deepened and, for once, Sam was right there with him. “…You know, skip a few chapters in the book. Check out the dessert menu before ordering dinner. I mean, if Zachariah can show us where the future’s heading, why not Cas?”
Dean's not thrilled about Sam's plan to say, "Yes," to the Devil and spend an eternity in the pit, so he proposes taking a road trip 15 years in the future to see how it all works out in the aftermath of the Apocalypse.
Sam had thought he was prepared for what awaited him in the future, but a pregnant fiancé, a human Castiel, and a married Dean were more than he'd been expecting.
