“With the Galactic Empire,” he attempts to lighten his own mood with the joke, but the response he gets from Ross makes the blood freeze in his veins.
“They call themselves the Unitary Galactic Communia, actually.”
If Tony lets his silence speak for itself, it’s only partially because his throat is closing up on him at an alarming rate.
“I know it sounds bad at first—“
“Oh no no no, not at all,” Tony interjects quickly, “this is wonderful news. A communia. A unitary one. Sounds very… organized. They must be people who know how to keep an army. Of galactic proportions. This is great, really. Not debilitatingly frightening in the least.”
...
Alternatively: the freshly pardoned Rogues have complaints, Tony is dead on his feet, and Steve has issues with the handsome alien lord who keeps offering Stark the literal universe. -

“Jesus,” John sounds mildly alarmed now. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”
I might have a few bruised ribs and something small and sharp is stuck in my right calf, so I respond in the negative.
“Okay. Alright… Listen.”
“I already dislike the destination of this conversation,” I try to interrupt, but John only looks down at me with concerned eyes, not seeming to register my words. An auditory processing disorder, perhaps?
“I don’t feel comfortable leaving you alone with a concussion. Is there—”
“I don’t have a concussion.” I really do. So do.
“—someone you can—”
“Come with me, then.” Very much do.
...A different first meeting for John and Sherlock where one is a bit less 'not gay', the other is not looking for a flatmate, and where Mike Stamford has Plans.

Summary
Sherlock Holmes comes back a bit more battered than how he left, John Watson has exactly one fiancé more compared to the amount he used to have, and words just don’t seem to make either of those issues any better.
Alternatively: the one where John didn't know true happiness until he found a frozen penis in his fridge.
