Summary
“Come on,” Mike argues. “Think of it like… a test drive. You’ll get the full Mike Wheeler boyfriend experience. It’s miserable! You’ll be over me in no time!”
They only have one last summer before they go off to college, and Will is sick of keeping his cards so close to his chest. So, in a fit of alcohol-induced bravery, he tells Mike everything.
Instead of breaking his heart, Mike proposes a deal: they’ll date for the summer. Get Mike out of Will’s system, show him he makes for a lousy boyfriend anyway, and make sure there aren’t any what-ifs waiting for him in New York.
No stone left unturned, after all.
Or: Summer brings clouds, nostalgia, and the all-consuming fear of change. They deal with it.

Summary
"Wait, why don’t we just practice together?"
Will's jaw slacks open. There's a bit of a pause—a small fleeting moment as he studies Mike, stunned.
"It could be, like, a nightly thing."
"You want to... kiss each other goodnight?"
Oh.
"Well, when you put it like that, it sounds kinda-"
“Gay?” Will scoffs.
Or: It's summer of 1990—the hottest, most grueling on record. Luckily for Mike, he's invited to stay in Montauk with Will over break. But what starts as a moment of vulnerability turns to something more. Will wants to learn how to kiss, and Mike—eager to help his best friend—offers to be his test subject.
It was a spur-of-the-moment decision, okay? Plus, Mike wants to practice so he can know how to kiss the girl he totally met on their first night here.
She’s not fake. Not at all.

Summary
“Thanks for taking care of me, Mike. I didn’t mean to drink this much.” Mike locks the dorm door behind him with a quiet click. “I could’ve had Carlton walk me back. If you wanted to stay at the party.”
Mike rolls his eyes, taking a deliberate step closer. “Yeah, I bet he would've loved that. And, please... stop saying his fucking name, okay?”
Will swallows. “Sorry, I just meant…I’m so happy you’re here, but I know you’re not just here to see me, and you probably want—”
Mike cuts him off without a second thought. He grabs Will’s arms, and shoves him lightly but firmly against the wall. Their chests collide. Will freezes—but Mike doesn’t back down. “Will…you have no idea what I want,” he whispers, eyes dropping to Will’s lips. Every shred of control he’s ever clung to around him melting.

Summary
It’s September 1989, baby.
Mike Wheeler and Will Byers finally leave Hawkins for NYU: Will for art, Mike for biology on a pre-med track he swears is a “compromise.”
New York was supposed to be a fresh start. Instead it turns their “friends—no, thanks—best friends” truce into something impossible to ignore.
—Set during the AIDS crisis.
Because you don’t get to be queer in New York in 1989 without it in the room.
But they’re going to be okay. Promise.Comments are always appreciated!
