“It's about you and Jerry,” he says slowly.
Layne brushes his palms, dusting the crumbs off of them. He frowns, confused by this timid tiptoeing. It's not like Inez to be this hesitant, least of all about the band.
“Okay? What about us?” he tries not to sound too impatient. He reaches for his own bottle and tips it to his mouth.
Inez shifts in his seat, clears his throat.
“Are you two… y'know… fucking?”
Layne chokes on his beer.

It’s not as though he doesn’t understand. How sometimes it’s the only box left to tick, that prick in your belly that steadily brews until it lifts your hand, lets it strike. He knows.
It’s just Jerry keeps ticking off enough boxes he feels as though there might be nothing after the fact.

Summary
“… Hey, for another twenty I’ll give you a little dance to get your mind off it. But for real this time. A working woman needs her money.” Layne held out his palm in a sassy manner. Jerry scrunched his brows and laughed nervously. It was one of those times where he couldn’t tell if he was being serious.
His walls already down, Jerry played along despite his nagging conscience. “Sure, I’ll take a dance. But only if you actually got the balls. Then I’ll pay you double,” he tested.
“What, you don’t think I can dance?” Layne crossed an arm.Playful energies are high after a show and the boys begin walking an edge they can’t come back from after some jokes go a little too far.
