Summary

He must have paused a little too long as Jake’s voice came through the phone again. “I get it, he’s home.” He sounded a little dejected, and Shin heard him take another deep drag from his cigarette.
“He’ll be gone again in a few days.” Shin fished on the tiles behind him for his own pack of cigarettes and lighter, squeezing the phone against his shoulder to free up his other hand.
Once he’d retrieved the last cigarette from the carton, perching it tightly between his lips, he let the empty pack clatter to the ground. Deft fingers struck the lighter with one hand as he grasped the phone again with the other.
“Call me as soon as he leaves. I’ll come and pick you up.”
