Summary
“I ripped my eye out,” Will said as if it were nothing. As if his eye weren’t a vital part of his face.
Mike immediately took his hand and pressed a tender kiss to his fingers, trying to ignore the chill crawling up his spine.
“Why did you do that?” he asked, stunned.
Outside the room, Nancy watched carefully from behind the half-open door. She knew she was invading their privacy, but her concern for her brother spoke louder.
“So he wouldn’t have control over me.”
The answer came in such a dark tone that it made Mike shiver. Nancy felt the same chill run down her spine.
Or:
Nancy Wheeler should never have entered the Upside Down without proper clothes, weapons, or alongside three people who had never been there before.
But Nancy also should never have found something that was supposed to be dead.
Or rather... Someone who was supposed to be dead.

Summary
Years after the Upside Down, Will is mostly okay. Mostly.
But lately, the back of his neck has started betraying him again, prickling with goosebumps and old fear even though the Mind Flayer is gone. When Mike notices, he refuses to let Will keep treating that part of himself like something ruined.
Or
The back of Will’s neck has been extra sensitive ever since everything with the Mind Flayer. Mike helps him realize that doesn’t always have to be a bad thing.

Summary
The very foundation of the universe has cracked. No, not the Upside Down; something even more catastrophic. Something so unbreakable that its destruction can lead to the end of life as they know it.
“I just can’t believe they’re fighting,” Lucas muses with a sigh.
“This is a bad one,” El emphasizes. “They fought in California too, but it wasn’t like this.”
“In the ten years I’ve known them, I’ve never once seen them sit more than six inches away from each other. This is worse than the summer of ‘85.”

When Mike and Will get in an argument, the Party comes up with a plan to get them back together again (as purely-platonic friends, of course).

Summary
“I—I would tell you.” He says reflexively, but he doesn’t take it back. The words are true. He hears Mike’s breath catch and his hand twitches. “I just wouldn’t want you to– to pity me. Or see me… differently.”
“I would never.” The response is instant. “You’re strong. I’d never pity you. I… god, how do I explain?” Mike turns his body to face Will head on and grabs his hand properly. Will feels a shiver run through him, but he squeezes back all the same. “I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry, for what you’ve been through, whatever it is. But it would never, never make me look at you differently.”
“Promise?”
“I promise."
Or: Will breaks down after the events at the MAC Z and trusts Mike to help him pick up the pieces.
