Summary
Days after the Battle Above the Gods Eye, a raven arrives at the Red Keep with a letter addressed to the Queen. Her husband is dead, having slain the Kinslayer in her name. Queen Rhaenyra is devastated. Inconsolable, she finds comfort in her two remaining sons, Aegon and Joffrey, and the necklace Daemon bestowed upon her many years ago. In the dead of night, the Queen clasps the necklace and pleads for her family to be whole once more. Unbeknownst to Rhaenyra, the Fourteen Flames grant her this one wish. The Half-Year Queen is taken back in time to the night of her wedding to Ser Laenor Velaryon, her memories intact. Amongst the heated bodies of the Throne Room, Rhaenyra challenges her uncle to take her to Dragonstone and to wed her in the tradition of their house. Instead of faltering as they did the first time, the two flee King's Landing on Caraxes.
Or, a happy ending, fix-it canon-diverging alternate universe in which Daemon and Rhaenyra get married from the beginning in order to navigate the spools of green and black together.
