Summary
The itching under his skin hummed in a slightly off tune. When Buck was outside the Diaz door, he could physically feel Eddie’s happiness, without seeing him. Here, on the porch, he could feel that Eddie’s happiness was at about… 78%. High, honestly. Through the closed door, he could hear music playing softly and Chris yelling at a video game in his room.
When he opened the door and stepped in, he headed toward the kitchen where Eddie was, predictably, washing dishes with his phone in his pocket, playing a Christmas album in Spanish. When Eddie turned to look at him, a smile on his face, his happiness went up to a 98.4%.
Buck stumbled into a kitchen chair, nearly folding in half over it, huffing out a loud oof.
Eddie’s eyes went wide and he turned off the faucet, rushing over. “What the hell, man? You just totally-”
“Lost in my head,” Buck mumbled, cheeks ablaze as he righted the chair and himself. “Just knocked the wind out of myself, ignore me.”
or
As a child, Buck developed the ability to grant Christmas wishes. He finds this year a bit harder when Christopher makes a very particular wish; Eddie's complete happiness.

Summary
“A week,” Eddie sighed. “We can do this, right?”
Eddie’s gaze was pleading, needing assurance and comfort. His eyebrows were pinched in the middle of his forehead and Buck wanted to reach out and smooth it out with his thumb. Instead, he said, “’Course we can. We’ve faced tsunamis, beenados, earthquakes, broken dams… hey, where do we think the Diaz Parents Staying For A Week ranks?”
“Most likely to end in death,” Eddie muttered.
Buck clicked his tongue as he pulled the bowls from the cabinet for the salad, “That’s the lightning strike, actually.”

Summary
“Bobby?” Eddie asked.
Silence filled the other side of the phone and Eddie felt something cold and dark slide down his chest, settling in his gut. “Bobby?” he repeated.
A sob left Maddie.“Maddie,” Eddie pleaded. “Is Bobby okay?”

Summary
Blue eyes were the first thing he saw and his own hand came up, touching Buck’s cheek, fingertips right by his birthmark. Maybe God had finally taken pity on Eddie; given him this one last hallucination before the darkness took over again. Giving him Buck for just a brief moment of insanity to help him move on.
Buck’s hand came up over Eddie’s, “We’re gonna get you out, okay? Just have to wait a few more minutes.”
Even this fake Buck was still so optimistic. “Buck.” He had to say it, even to this false god. Buck met his gaze again, maybe hearing the intensity in which it was said. “Buck, I love you.”
There. Much better last words

Summary
“And, um, how long have you been in love with me?”
“Honestly? Probably for years.”
Years, he watches Buck mouth the word. His eyes slip past Eddie, his expression turning slightly dazed as he tries to process this new information.
“But I only realized it now.”
Buck’s eyes flick back to him, eyebrows shooting up in surprise. “Now?”
“Yeah, like, right now.” He looks down at the watch on his wrist, cocking his head back and forth. “About five minutes ago, give or take.”
“You realized you’re in love with me while watching me wipe chocolate off Theo’s face?” Buck huffs out a laugh, looking down at the now dirty wet wipe still clutched in his hands in disbelief.
Or, Eddie realizes he's in love with Buck on a Wednesday afternoon. This is how that goes.

Summary
“Alright,” Eddie shrugs, laissez-faire. He pulls Buck’s plate to the center of the table; pushes his own forward in kind. Then he begins a drawn-out circus routine of plucking an olive at a time up and out of the bowl and plopping them onto their respective dishes, one by one.
The delicate, repetitive movement of Eddie’s pinched fingers reminds Buck of picking the petals off of flowers. He loves me. He loves me not. He love—
An olive hits him square in the forehead.
“There,” Eddie says, resolute, as the pitted projectile tumbles to the ground at Buck’s feet. “Equal treatment.”
Or: Buck, Eddie, and the olive theory. Well, in theory.

Summary
"Are you married?”
Christopher coughed so hard he nearly dropped his phone.
Buck choked on nothing.
Eddie said, “No.”
Theo turned to Buck. “Why?”
Buck’s mouth opened.
Eddie got there first. “Because you have to ask someone before you marry them.”
Theo considered this.
Then he looked at Buck. “Did you ask?”
“No,” Buck said quickly.
Theo looked at Eddie. “Did you ask?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Christopher whispered, “Great question.”

Bodyguard Boyfriend Beside Himself as Prince Checks into Rehab
“I Want to Live with Bobby!” says Young Prince
Royal’s Lover Splits: “Too Much Baggage!”
The headlines weren’t anything new—Eddie was pretty sure that he and Buck had broken up at least forty times in the last year according to the tabloids— but it was overwhelming to see them all at once.
But then Eddie’s phone chimed followed by another one and another one in rapid succession. The first was a stern email from the media liaison reminding Eddie to remain no comment. The second was a text from Chimney telling him not to say anything. The third wasn’t even a text message. It was a notification for his news app and the words across the banner had Eddie swearing as he abandoned his cart.

Summary
Romance is a lot easier to write about than it is to put into practice, and Eddie is the world’s most ridiculous living example of that. He can practically hear the kind of jokes that Shannon would make about it, if he ever told her about the books but - he didn’t. And somehow, probably just because he didn’t start writing until after they weren’t living together anymore, she never found out.
There’s actually only a handful of people in the world who know that Eddie is a writer - and more specifically, that he’s E. Diaz, one of the bestselling romance authors on the market.
or - the one where everything in canon is the same, except eddie diaz is secretly a bestselling romance author, and nobody knows. Yet.
