‘Do you believe it?’ M--- asks, cautious, almost incredulous. It seems a bit absurd to her, all that stuff about dying on the cross and rising from the dead and the miracles of the blood and the body.
‘I believe that what I believe does not matter all that much,’ C--- answers. ‘I believe that we are not called to understand God. We are called to serve.’
M--- leans back on her hands against the dirty concrete. She mulls that statement over, feels its shape in her mouth.
‘Yes,’ she finally says. ‘Yes, I agree with that.’

The sun was beginning to set, casting the small cafe in a warm yellow light. When Harrow looked at the barista, she immediately believed the sunlight was flowing in for her; she stood behind the counter like an ancient figure carved from marble, all sharp jawlines and well-defined muscles. The golden hour light made her positively radiant. She belonged in a museum, not behind a cash register. Harrow none-so-gently shoved down the instinctual desire to photograph her.

Summary
Gideon didn’t regret pushing Harrow out of the way of the oncoming pickup truck. Obviously, it would have sucked to see the nunlet flattened and shattered like a stepped-on Pringle. She did definitely regret getting hit by the car herself, even if she was not so much the Pringle as Harrow might’ve been. Breaking both legs in different places, vividly colorful bruising all down one side of the body, two cracked ribs and a big concussion – and, of course, the coma. Out for two and a half weeks, or 17 days, or just long enough for, apparently, the entire social dynamic of her life to change. Go figure.
Gideon wakes up from a coma and believes that Harrow and Palamedes have started dating. What the fuck?
