    Summary

“Monsieur Chief Justice,” Wriothesley says, not sure if he wants to laugh or walk straight into the sea. “Are you unfamiliar with floriography?”

Returning to his dockets, Neuvillette says, “I understand it is a passing trend among the young people of Fontaine, but I have never given it much of my own regard.”

Wriothesley chokes. Half of Fontainian society communicates via the unspoken language of flowers, using bouquets to augment or even subvert their messages. “I wouldn’t call it a passing trend,” Wriothesley manages, strangled.

Wriothesley teaches Neuvillette the subtle political art of floriography, and Neuvillette takes the opportunity to communicate more privately with the Duke.

“Look, it isn't what it sounds like. V's basically a sweetheart most of the time."
“Basically a sweetheart. Most of the time." Incredibly, Barnes did not look sold.
"Yeah," Eddie rubbed his neck, trying not to fidget. "They just need the right person, which is me. They’re not gonna steal Captain America and go on a rampage.”
Though, once Eddie put it like that.... riding around in that pumped up pinnacle of perfect human physicality did kinda sound like V's idea of a good time.
    “Shit.”

    Summary

With a heavy sigh, Kaveh buried his face in his pillow. All of his romantic ideals, as usual, were quashed by the one man he actually yearned for such affections from - a marriage for the sake of fucking tax deductions.

Though it made sense in a cold, rational way, such a logical and disinterested proposal for Kaveh to willingly sacrifice his heart for nothing more than mora cut deep into his chest. And worst of all... Alhaitham was unaware that Kaveh’s heart could never even belong to anyone but him - that he was already the sole benefactor of Kaveh’s silent longing, having stolen Kaveh’s heart against his will long ago.

Kaveh curled around his pillow as if the soft cotton of his pillowcase could offer a reprieve from the turmoil churning deep in his stomach. He’d long since made peace with his unrequited love for Alhaitham, resigning himself to a lifetime of suppressed yearning - but this? This was torture, plain and simple, demanding mental gymnastics that Kaveh wasn’t confident he was flexible enough to contort himself into.

Kaveh remembered the stories. Cattle that were sacred. Cattle that were never to be touched.

“Please. I’m sorry. I’ll do anything. If it’s punishment you want—or justice—I’ll take it. Just spare them. Some of them are still kids.”

The god tilted his head. Stepped closer. Looked Kaveh over like he was something to be carved open.

    “Anything?”

    Kaveh swallowed. “Y-yes.”

Or: Kaveh’s juniors pissed off a god. Kaveh offered himself in their place. He didn’t expect the punishment to last a lifetime. And he definitely didn’t expect to enjoy it.

    Summary

Wanderer's skin glows for his age.

For a puppet that outlived its shelf-date, he’s kept well. Preserved in a time where divinity has long gone; dermatologists and cosmetic clinics wish he were their poster model.

He’s watched Teyvat modernize time and time again, his doctorates and degrees void of any meaning when he graduates for the 76th time out of boredom. He's used to human society by now, their lengthy and ridiculous rules. Mastering their absurd systems of rent, bank loans, the stigma of unemployment—living.

Everything is fine, even when grocery prices hike up way past his budget, when Nahida insists he stops walking across a stage, and when he finds out he’s died again in the local newspaper.

And, oh, that Xiao is still alive.
