Their time apart has treated Yusuke well, Ren thinks to himself, hands clasped underneath his head as he stares up at the “ceiling” of the shared tent. He’s still Yusuke, of course, but he seems more… confident? Not that he wasn’t before - in his artistic abilities, sure, but there’s a self-assurance in the way he carries himself that wasn’t quite there during their first run as Phantom Thieves. It isn’t wholly unfamiliar to Ren, though - he was used to seeing glimpses as he fought alongside Fox in the Metaverse. And it makes sense - Fox is a part of Yusuke, after all. And Ren is no stranger to the way Yusuke expresses himself; the way he wears his emotions on his sleeve, but Ren can sense that there’s a trace of something else there underneath, too. It’s an unknown he can’t quite name yet, but he swears there’s something there in the way Yusuke’s gaze lingers on him, how he seems to hang onto Ren’s every word.
Ren decides he likes it; maybe it means he actually has a chance now.
