Yelena doesn’t often listen to what anyone else has to say. That is, of course, assuming they’re not paying her to do so (and even then, she tends to take a few, shall we say, liberties). So, she thinks, what am I doing, listening to this naive girl with more scrapes on her face than forks in her apartment?
“It’s an artistic choice,” she mutters to no one in particular, which is seemingly a normal occurrence on the streets of New York City, because she doesn’t even get a weird glance. She would definitely get a weird glance in Ohio. Or Russia.

The thing is, Kate doesn’t really expect to see Yelena again. Sure, they shared a pot of mac and cheese and solved one case together, but that’s hardly a binding contract. There’s nothing solid tying the two of them together, even if Kate wishes there were.
