It's a sunny, hot day in Pittsburgh, but shadows never truly leave. When a writhing girl shows up bleeding out and full of mystery bite marks, a perfect return is insidiously put on pause. It wasn't her fault, but a threat is a threat when found, and in her blood carries a disease only told in stories and an addiction that could cause the end of humanity itself. The emergencies and interpersonal complications of the Pitt are upended as Langdon determines what is best for the girl, his career, and the Pitt.
