“Robby force you to take a break?” he asks when she’s close enough to not have to yell.
“Yeah.”
“Me too,” he huffs. “Like he’s my superior or something. Asshole.”
Samira laughs, bending down to put her coffee down, balancing her sandwich on the lid, and then leans her forearms on the railing, far enough away to still be able to look at the side of his face, but close enough that she feels a little more confident she’ll be able to do something if he… Well. “Should you be sitting over there?” she asks, staring at the slight slope of his nose, the shadow of his eyelashes across on the top of his freckled cheekbone.
“Probably not,” he answers in a casual tone. “At least I’m sitting.”
That doesn’t comfort her very much, but she figures there’s no point in fighting him on it, so she turns and sits down with her back against the warm metal, mirroring him. “You want half of my sandwich?” she offers, twisting her upper body to hold it out to him.

When Dr. Ellis rings in sick after catching a nasty cold just before day shift ends, only one doctor is up to taking a night shift and that is Dr. Mohan.
Everyone is surprised to see her arrival in a cocktail dress and seemingly have left a date to work the shift. Especially Jack Abbot.

But when Samira gets stood up, and Jack just happens to be at the same restaurant, the night takes a turn. One shared meal turns into a quiet ride home, a kiss at her door, and a night they can’t take back.

A second later, he finally blurts, “I need someone to help… Dr. Abbot is here.”
Samira checks her watch and finally looks up at how nervous Dennis is in the doorway. It’s not entirely unusual for Dr. Abbot to arrive an hour early to get a lay of the land before the night shift arrives.
“Help with what?”
“He looks really stressed. He said his calf muscle is burning, and he is feeling a sharp stabbing pain every 45 seconds.”
Samira nods in understanding and is already standing up, moving to the trash can to throw the half-sewn banana away. “ Did you look at his calf? Is the muscle injured?”
Dennis goes white and shakes his head no as he holds the break room door open for her to walk out. “He was talking about the right calf.”
Samira picks up her pace and follows Dennis to the side family room, where he stashed Jack. “You need to tell Robby.”
