Summary
“I was especially intrigued with your ideas on splitting the human soul,” you said to Dottore, “although, it begs the question whether what remains is two souls or merely two halves.”
“Oh?” He cocked his head. “Go on.”
“Well, if one complete soul is divided into many pieces, I would expect that piece to contain certain elements that the others would lack. Like a puzzle, I suppose. The pieces can exist on their own, but they’ll only contain the data that exist on that one piece, not the whole picture itself.”
Now the Doctor’s expression was unreadable. Was he entertained? Satisfied? Had you passed some secret test? He merely put his cup in its saucer and smiled. The age lines of his features crinkled softly and you couldn’t help but trace them with your gaze, like a map of his lifetime. “I suppose the pieces would be their own being, then,” he agreed after a pause. “But would they still represent the whole itself?”

Summary
Growing up, you'd always heard that Il Dottore was many things: genius, madman, miracle-worker.
After working under him, you realise that he's every bit as complicated as the rumours make him sound. He allows no room for mistakes, but tolerates failure. He hates the cold, but spends most of his days in the most frigid parts of Snezhnaya, staring over the winter sea. He's always homesick for a place across that same sea he was never truly able to call his. The list goes on.
Yes, you have come to learn, Il Dottore is a walking mess of contradictions.
More heretic than god. More god than heretic. Never one, and never both.
And sometimes, in the brief, selfish moments he lets you witness—more man than monster.
