Detention was nothing new to Sebastian, but this was the first time Ominis had gotten into trouble with him.

“I don’t want to argue about this anymore,” said Sebastian quietly. He wished his hands were free of books so he could reach out to Ominis, to see if he would lean into the touch or recoil. “I am taking you seriously. I’ve heard everything you’ve said, but I have to help Anne. I have to, but I’m being careful, and I won’t do anything stupid.”
Ominis’s head was still bowed, his expression hidden. In a small voice he said, “I’m afraid of losing you, Sebastian.”
That wasn’t something he’d said in their previous fight, and Sebastian's gut twisted with guilt.
