    Summary

Seabright Bay is too small to breathe in, and Izuku Midoriya swore he’d never come back. But his mother is sick, so he does. The town, the ocean, the painful memories and the boy who made it hell all waiting where he left them. Katsuki Bakugou isn’t the golden prodigy anymore, he’s a sun-bleached apology in a surf shop, a storm he never learned to name.

What started at thirteen with salt, a kiss and a cruelty... never stopped pulling. Years of silence calcified into hate, regret, self-loathing and a want neither of them knows how to survive. Now they keep colliding in doorways and bars, on sandbars and sidewalks, caught between who they were and who they’re terrified to be. Izuku is done drowning. Bakugou is done pretending the tide isn’t his fault.

This is about the love you survive, the apologies that come too late, and the kind of forgiveness that feels like standing in the break and choosing to stay.

“Because the truth was, loving Bakugou had never been the problem. It was surviving it.”

“You don’t get to call this unfinished, you hear me? You ended it the second you made me wish I was someone else.”

“We can’t go back from this.”

It’s not hesitation. It’s a dare. It’s a warning. A whispered red line drawn in the dark. The last chance to turn around before the fall becomes freefall.

And even kneeling, knowing this chips away at the last sliver of pride he has left, Bakugou doesn’t hesitate. “I’m not trying to go back.”

He raises his chin just slightly.

“I’m here. You want to use me? Use me. You want to hurt me? Fine. You want to fuck me up?” He breathes deep. Stares up at him like it’s a vow. “Then do it.”

“I hope you learn how to stay with yourself,” he speaks, voice steady by force. “So you can finally learn to stay with someone and love them the way they deserve.”

    Summary

Izuku Midoriya is a 26-year-old former high school basketball star whose dreams of going pro were shattered by a career-ending injury. Instead of letting this setback define him, Izuku channeled his passion for the sport into a new path: sports medicine and physical therapy. Now, after years of hard work and determination, he has been hired as the new physical therapist for the Tokyo Dynamos, one of the most prestigious teams in the league.

"You push yourself to be the best, but push too hard, and sooner or later, you break."

Among the players, Katsuki Bakugou stands out as the team’s fiery and fiercely talented shooting guard. Known for his explosive playstyle and aggressive demeanor, Bakugou is both revered and feared on the court. However, his relentless pursuit of greatness comes at a cost — Bakugou has sustained several injuries over the years, and his distrust in others makes him a challenging patient.

“You think I need your damn help to stay on top? I’ve been busting my ass for years without you, and I sure as hell don’t need some pencil-pusher getting in my way now.”

“But I’ve never flown higher than I did when I fell for you.”

“Understand something, Deku.” Bakugou’s fingers found their way into his hair, brushing through it so stupidly soft, so stupidly gentle it made Izuku’s chest clench. “This isn’t a sacrifice. It’s not some fucking compromise. It’s a choice.”

    A choice.

    A deliberate choice.

“I don’t give a shit if Tampa isn’t the biggest team,” Bakugou continued, the conviction in his voice hitting Izuku straight to his bones. “I don’t give a shit if it’s a ‘downgrade.’ Because it’s not.” His grip on Izuku’s waist tightened, pulling him in. “This is me moving forward. This is me finally fucking choosing something I want more than any contract, any ring, any title.”

He breathed in, deep and steady, like this was the easiest thing in the world for him to say.

His voice dropped, lower, huskier, burning like fire against Izuku’s lips.

    “I choose you.”

    Bookmarker's Notes

While staring at Izuku crying in Katsuki’s arms, clutching onto him for dear life, Shouto noticed three very important things.

The first fact he noticed was the growing intensity of the arsonist’s flames. He noticed how it was originally one building on Kaze Ave., then three on Ichirizuka Street, and now an entire block on Uchi Street.

    They were getting angrier.

The Cremator was getting more pissed off for whatever reason but there was something different about this strike that rang loud and clear. It was apparent with the acidic sulfur smell in the air and the sound of firemen cutting the metal chains on the buildings struggling to save the people locked inside.

This attack was spiteful. Like the arsonist wanted to ensure a death toll.

The second fact he noticed was given away with how Katsuki tried to comfort Izuku. The way the lieutenant was cradling the freckled face in both his hands and telling Izuku he was going to be alright, showed how he was beginning to fall very deeply in love—even if the blond didn’t recognize it yet. The gentle way he wiped Izuku’s pouring tears off his face and pulled him in closely to his chest showcased it very clearly.

But the last thing he noticed was possibly the most important fact of all. He looked at Izuku’s face as he trembled against Katsuki, violent sobs ripping out his raw throat and Shouto could see deep fear.

However, there was something else there was well.

Izuku was more than just scared. He was spooked as if he saw something in the reflection of the flames that frightened him to his core. When the greenette wearily glanced towards him, that’s when Shouto noticed the very last, jarring detail about Izuku:

    Fire was following him.

    Summary

Katsuki always believed the first emotion he felt about the mysterious man was anger. Unchecked, pure fucking resentment. He thought the bitter emotion coursed through him like a raging river and struck lightning on every nerve he had.

But when he truly thought back on it—the first emotion he felt wasn’t anger. It wasn't even hate or mild dislike.

    It was morbid curiosity.

“I missed you…so much,” Izuku murmured. His eyes blinked slowly and unevenly. “I’m…I’m going to miss you.”

“Don’t say that, you can’t die on me, Izuku,” Katsuki rasped, tears streaking down his cheeks. He shook Izuku lightly, desperate to keep him tethered. “C’mon, darling, keep your eyes open. J-Just talk to me. Aizawa will be here soon. I’m sure of it. You just have to hold on a little longer, and we’ll get you help, I swear it.”

But Izuku’s gaze was unfocused, pupils drifting. Fear crept onto his face, as if he could already see the end approaching.

“I…I don’t think I’m going to make it, Kacchan.” A single tear slipped down Izuku’s freckled cheek. “I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t you fucking say that,” Katsuki snapped. His chest heaved, and something inside him fell apart. He realized there was only one thing left to cling to. It was the one thing he’d spent his whole life spitting on, denying, mocking—until this moment. “You’re going to make it. Because it’s—”

He swallowed hard and let the word burn its way out.

    “—It’s fate.”

Light sparked in Izuku’s eyes, surprised. His lips curved into the softest, most fragile smile Katsuki had ever seen. With what little strength he had left, his eyes refocused, he looked up, and he reached out for Katsuki’s hand. They gazed at each other, full of love.

“I thought you didn’t believe in fate?” Izuku asked.

Katsuki cradled his lover’s cheek, thumb brushing away the tears. He smiled back.

    “For you, I do.”

    Summary

“Honestly Deku, I really couldn’t care less that you have a girlfriend.”

Silence fell upon the room as Izuku gave him a look he couldn’t quite decipher. “...What are you trying to say?” Izuku finally questioned after several moments, carefully.

    Shit.

Katsuki has been pining for years after Izuku. He's softened up a bit, bankrolled a hero suit for the nerd, and gives lectures at UA whenever Izuku requests it. So when what he thought was a dream they shared doesn't pan out like he'd planned, life goes in a direction Katsuki never would've expected.

A story told over five acts which leans heavily into the pain of three characters, with Katsuki's anguish being the focal-point. The happy ending and eventual comfort to the hurt exists for everyone, no matter how bleak things may seem at times, but this story will be gut-wrenching to read most of the chapters. If you aren't at least a bit of a masochist, this fic is probably not for you. You have been warned.

Oh, and the title of the fic is in part inspired by the song Scorpio Rising by Soccer Mommy, and also in part by, well, astrology.

    xoxo, enjoy :)

It didn’t matter to him that Izuku was in a relationship with Uraraka in that moment.

It didn’t bother him that the two probably had many more experiences like this and arguably better ones.

It didn’t matter to him that Izuku probably wasn’t feeling any of the emotions that Katsuki was feeling at that moment, and it didn’t matter that he probably felt all those emotions with Uraraka instead.

    ——

“What do you want then. You wanna call me that shit? What else. You gonna tell me you love me or some crap while I fuck you? Make me say it back? You want me to make love to you, Deku, ‘s that it?”
