Summary
Once a year, every year, one boy and one girl are selected from each of the twelve districts on Reaping Day. They are sent to the Capitol where they will then fight to the death on a televised program. One victor will emerge from the twenty-four tributes, and the prize will be endless riches and glory. The Hunger Games serves to remind the districts that they must be punished for how they betrayed their provider, but it also shows the benevolency of their Capitol. The Capitol can give, and the Capitol can take.
