Summary
He soaps your shoulders and works his way down your arm to the stem of your wrist, then bows his head and kisses the back of your hand. His eyes flit to your face, and the faint smile on his lips disappears as he brushes his thumb over your cheek, wiping away the streak of tears that you angrily try to blink away.
You swivel away from him so suddenly that water spills over the edge of the tub, splashing like a wave breaching a seawall and wetting a splotchy stain across the front of his shirt. When he automatically reaches to draw you back, you flinch and he freezes, stops dead there for a moment with his outstretched hand hovering over the water like a figure painted on an urn.
“You… you’re—” Your voice breaks, and you scour away a fresh welling of tears with your forearm. “God, you’re making me feel like such a piece of shit.”
