    “Well, we met back in my second year at school, became friends since I didn’t know who his future self was, he tried to kill me, I killed him, and then he floated around the aether for a couple years,” Harry sighed. It was all so very complex.

    Everyone has had a summer from hell after what happened with the Triwizard Tournament. Literally everyone, even the part of Voldemort's soul that he thought he'd gotten rid of so very long ago. When Harry Potter's worst enemy asks for his help though...well, that pesky saving people thing just really gets in the way.

    Very enjoyable story, like everything by this author.

    Darkness Within, by Whimsical_Musings

    Interesting take on dark!Harry, with Harry going to Voldemort in exchange for release of prisoners Ron & Hermione, unwillingly becoming his apprentices, and over time coming to accept that his victory is inevitable and that working by his side is the best way to temper his excesses and have some influence over the direction of his regime - especially since Harry is a Horcrux and also turns out to be his heir. Under Voldemort Harry becomes powerful and competent, allowing him some control over his life, whereas Dumbledore left him weak, ignorant, and powerless to do anything to protect people he cares for or affect Voldemort.

    This is well written and engrossing, with excellent character development for Harry, but his unhappiness with his fate and struggle to truly accept it is hard to read at times. Harry’s resolution felt settled but not necessarily happy for him, particularly with regard to his interpersonal relationships. I’m not sure if this was the intent.

    In the world where Tom Marvolo Riddle becomes Minister of Magic and Albus Dumbledore secretly builds a resistance movement, Hadrian Castor Potter, second son of James and Lily Potter, feels alone and deprived of his heritage. Especially when no one believes him and in him. Hogwarts is like a vision of safe heaven but Dumbledore’s obsession with a prophecy grows, and soon political conflict will get more and more hostile.

    The perspective of difficult decisions, hard choices and conflicts is overwhelming, and there will be the time when Hadrian would face a point of no return.

    Alea iacta est, like said Julius Caesar.

    2025-01-25 Through ch 15

    I love this story. Only in the very last chapter does it finally become apparent what the “story” - as in the plot - actually is; for the first 14.5 chapters I kept wondering - what is this actually about? There’s no bad-guy Voldemort - what is the plot? Is there one?

    But I didn’t really care that much, because I was loving it so much. Harry, his special magic, his fantastic Ravenclaw friends, the Blacks, the fascinating variations on canon (in particular the Triwizard Tournament in the dungeon), the amazing characters, the engrossing writing - all of it.

    Tragically, it seems to be abandoned here, so far from finished. The larger conflict driving the story has only just begun. It’s so painful to accept there will be no more of this wonderful world for me to lose myself in.

    Harry has been on the run since his seventeenth birthday...He is now almost twenty and the war is still waging between him and The Dark Lord. Ron is gone, lost to him when they were escaping Malfoy Manor. Remus, Tonks, and Fred, all lost as well during the Battle at Hogsmeade. He has lost too many people. And he cannot bear to lose anymore. He must keep Teddy and the others safe.

    Voldemort finally finds them. But when it looks hopeless, when it seems as if everything is lost, something within Harry shatters and all he can do is scream. So, he does. He screams until his throat is raw and he passes out from the pain of it all.

    His scream has unexpected results. His scream calls others to him. People, Creatures that rally behind him to keep him safe. To help him finish this war so that he can maybe finally move on with his life and find some peace and happiness.

    2025-05-31 through and read through ch 8.

    A There Be Dragons, Harry dragel story. DH and post-DH AU, with Harry having failed to find the horcruxes bf the Battle of Hogwarts so the war continued. 19yo Harry is still fighting with a small group, including Teddy who is now in his care. He soul screams when their group is attacked by Voldemort and death eaters and they are all about to fall.

    In this story Harry is (at times at least) more of a hardened fighter than in many dragel stories and is older, an actual (young) adult, which is interesting, though at times he falls into the same childish Submissive behaviors as in stories in which he’s much younger, which feels a little incongruous. I’m enjoying it and hope it continues.

    (Except for Teddy’s intolerably obnoxious and ridiculous (and unrealistic) toddler-speak and the way he pops up just to make comments that are supposed to be adorably “awwww”-inspiringly insightful but are really just cringe. He serves no purpose in this story and is not a real character, just a caricature. Luckily his role is small.)
