Summary
Shane turned back to Ilya. “You say things to me that make me feel the same as when you kiss me,” he spoke softly, accentuating his words with motioning arms, “like the earth could give out from under you and you wouldn’t give a shit, because that way you could stay in the sunlight all the time. You love when it’s sunny.” He drew in a long, steadying breath. “And it makes me think you might love me like you love the sun.”
Ilya thought his chest may burst open with the sheer force his heart beat with. “It was sunny today, yes? Did not make me feel like this. Not even close,” Ilya offered Shane his hand. Shane took it and Ilya dragged him to his chest. He pressed their intertwined hands against his heart. “Feel that? Only you, no sun. Would not want the earth to collapse. It would take you away, too. What do I do with just the stupid sun, if you are not there to block it out?”
or; Shane visits Ilya when the Voyageurs are in Boston. They are down horrendous for each other. Also very much in love. So, pretty canon.

Summary
Shane Hollander is just trying to survive NYU biochemistry, hockey practice, and the graveyard shift at 7-Eleven. He's too exhausted to notice that his new regular customer is Russian mafia, or that Ilya's interest in him goes beyond terrible coffee and cookies.
When Ilya hands him a $10,000 designer scarf and matching gloves, Shane doesn't panic. He sells them for next month's rent. Any normal person would be terrified. Instead, Shane uses the leftover money to buy a Hello Kitty watch, pastel pink, childish, utterly incongruous with the danger circling him. He wears it to his next night shift without irony or apology.
Ilya notices immediately. He is fascinated.
